In 1996, transport de Clare Society began providing non-profit, community-based rural transportation. That was the beginning!
In 2001, the Community Transportation Assistance Program (CTAP) and the Accessible Transportation Assistance Program (ATAP) were set up by Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations to aid in meeting rural transportation needs as well as other needs specifically rural.
The Rural Transportation Association formed in 2011 with eleven member organizations, growing to twelve in 2012-2013.
Now in 2013-2014 there are fourteen CTAP funded members as well as additional groups working to develop service in Lunenburg and Antigonish Counties as well as St. Mary’s and St. Margaret’s Bay.
